The father of two soldiers is to get on his bike to raise cash for injured servicemen and women. Ian Paterson will ride his quad bike for a mammoth 24 hours around Kielder Forest in aid of charity Help For Heroes.![]() Mr Paterson, who hopes to cover at least 300 miles, said: "Like a lot of people I just wanted to do something for Help For Heroes. "The idea of what I could do has been going round in my mind for a while, so I decided to do this. "I've set up a website and already I have been given £700 in donations." Mr Paterson, from Raby Gardens in Jarrow, knows only too well what charities such as Help For Heroes mean to those injured during operations. Younger son, Neil, 29, had a few near misses while out in Afghanistan and his elder son Gareth, 31, has used the charity to get physiotherapy. Mr Paterson, a technician at Newcastle University, added: "Both my sons have served in Afghanistan. My eldest one is still there. "But its not just because my sons have both been out there, Help 4 Heroes does a lot for injured servicemen and women and I just wanted to do my bit." Help For Heroes was set up in 2007 to offer support to those injured while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq by funding specialist centres. Mr Paterson will be taking to his quad bike on Saturday, June 20. Anyone who would like to sponsor Mr Paterson visit, www.justgiving.com/KielderQuadRide |
