Neighbourhood Police in North Bradford have warned illegal off road riders who endanger residents they will not hesitate to take action after seizing two bikes in two weeks. Officers from the North Bradford Neighbourhood Police Team have said anyone who was caught riding a quad bike illegally or causing a nuisance to members of the public would face a fine and having their vehicle confiscated. The warning follows an incident on Sunday June 28 in which officers received a call about a quad bike being ridden on Shuttleworth Fields, Fairweather Green causing nuisance to those playing cricket there. PCSO Beth Petty from the North Bradford NPT attended the scene and due to local knowledge was able to identify the owner and trace him to his home. The bike was confiscated and the owner will have to pay £150 for its recovery and will be reported for driving without insurance. The incident follows an earlier seizure on June 14 in which North Bradford officers confiscated a machine being ridden by a 17-year-old from the area who had been reported for driving offences. It also follows a recent warning from the Eccleshill NPT that they would be looking to target those causing a nuisance or potential danger on illegal off road bikes this summer in the Fagley, Thorpe Edge and Ravenscliffe areas. Acting Sergeant Blair Mitchell, the off road motorcycle officer for the Eccleshill NPT, said tackling the issue of illegal off road biking was a top priority for the team this summer. Sergeant Andy Berriman of the North Bradford NPT, said his officers were also keen to address the issue in their area. He said: “This is the second bike my officers have seized recently as a result of calls from the community. I know how much of a danger and nuisance these bikes are and will always ensure positive action is taken. “The owner of the bike will have to prove legal ownership and pay about £150 in recovery and will also be reported for insurance offences where the fine could be up to £1,000.00.” North Bradford NPT Inspector Steve Greenbank added that residents should contact his officers if they knew of anyone who was illegally using an off road quad bike on the road. He said: “We often find that many of the people who ride these machines are uninsured and obviously this is a real concern. “You can help the Police in North Bradford take more nuisance bikes off the road by passing details of the rider or where the bike is stored in confidence by telephone on 01274 537311 or e mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it If the bike is present please call 0845 6060606.” Anyone who has information about nuisance bikes in Eccleshill should contact the Eccleshill NPT on 01274 376168 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it If the bike is present call 0845 6060606.” |
