Le Touquet Beach Race 2009 Results |
|

This years beach race at Le Touquet took place on 21st February 2009. Thirty years ago, a young Frenchman working for the small beach resort city of Le Touquet in northern France had a great idea. A passionate motorcycle rider, he wanted to race his friends on the city's sandy beaches. He gathered 286 like-minded bikers and started a race that would become one of the legendary motorcycle races, the Beach Enduro of Le Touquet.
The young man's name was Thierry Sabine, and he later went on to found the famous Paris-Dakar rally. Unfortunately, Sabine died on January 14, 1986, in a helicopter crash while organizing that year's Dakar rally. Over time, the Le Touquet enduro grew to immense proportions. One thousand motorcycles and quad bikes take part in this mad event, with some 500,000 spectators from all over Europe coming to see the free show. This years results are in and show an impressive 5th place for Britains Paul Winrow and an 8th Place for Britains John Mitchell

An all new ACU Quad Enduro Championship has been launched by the Trials and Enduro Committee to provide an outlet for quad riders who are keen to compete in enduro events with timecards and controls, rather than cross country or hare and hound type events. As yet there has been no discussion or decision on classes for the championship.
For convenience, the new championship will run over four rounds spread over just two weekends. The first two rounds will be held on the 5th and 6th of September at the Cwm Ceireg Dyfi Enduro which is organised by MWTRA. This event will also include a round of the Quad Forestry Championship, although how the entries and classes will be broken down between the two events isn't quite clear as yet.
