Project Banshee - Galfer

Galfer's UK distributor Quad-Master provided us with front and rear
wavey discs, pads and brake lines.
Galfer Brakes was founded in
Barcelona, Spain in 1946 as a brake pad supplier for major European motorcycle
and auto makers by Maffio Milesi and was for the most part, unknown in the
United States until 1992 when Giorgio Milesi (one of Maffio Milesi’s three son’s
who now own Galfer, Spain, moved to Santa Barbara with his son Sandro to open
Galfer USA. Twelve years and 2 locations later, Galfer USA resides in a new
12,000 square foot Oxnard, California warehouse that services North and South
America, Australia and the far east.
Although all Galfer brake pads are
still made in their Barcelona factory, Galfer USA is at the forefront of brake
technology. All Galfer stainless steel brake lines are made in the same building
as their sales and management and design teams. And many of Galfer’s rotors are
now made in Southern California.
Their relationships with top race teams and the OEM manufacturers allow them
to get their hands on the newest bikes before the public does so they can make
sure that their replacement pads, lines and rotors bolt up perfectly. They are
constantly developing new brake pad compounds, better ways to route your brake
lines and developing their patented “Wave” rotor technology so that you, the end
consumer has brake products from them that are truly state of the art.
Wavey discs
Admit it! You’re interested in Galfer waves because they look cool! We like the
way they look as well but believe it or not, there is quite a bit of thought
that went into their patented technology. On a normal round rotor, the leading
edge (think toe-in) of the brake pad is in contact with the entire height of the
blade as the pressure is applied. Because the contact covers the entire height
of the blade heat build up takes much less time to occur and you end up with
heat related problems like brake fade, thermal lockup, and inconsistent braking
performance. What the wave pattern does is take that leading edge of contact
between the blade and pad and constantly move it up and down, thus minimizing
heat build up and its inherent problems. Cool air is also introduced in greater
amounts. In addition, through centrifugal force, any foreign matter is thrown
clear of the outer rim of the blade and doesn't get lodged in the pad material.
Brake lines

If there is one item you can get
that will make an instant, noticeable improvement to your brake feel and
performance, switching to a stainless steel braided line is it! When you squeeze
your brake lever and force fluid through the hydraulic line to the caliper, the
line expands under pressure. This means that a good portion of the effort you
put forth from your hand doesn't get to the caliper! It makes the line expand.
By switching to a stainless steel braided brake line, you restrict the lines
expansion characteristics. This means that your hand pressure goes directly to
the caliper.
